El Paso Sleep Dentistry – Marquez Dental
Everyone would like a few more minutes to rest, but for some people, snoring and shortness of breath make getting eight hours a struggle. As one of the few dentists in El Paso that provides sleep dentistry, Alfred Marquez Jr., D.D.S has experience diagnosing and treating obstructive sleep apnea. Marquez Dental offers oral appliance therapy and other care options to help patients in our community and the surrounding neighborhoods gain more restful sleep and better overall wellness.
Why We Provide Sleep Dentistry
Our dentist is passionate about providing care for the complete well-being of his patients. As a member of the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine, Dr. Marquez understands how good oral health plays a part in addressing sleep apnea. With sleep dentistry, he can treat this condition and prevent associated concerns like heart disease, high blood pressure, and diabetes from occurring or becoming worse.
Our Treatment Options for Sleep Apnea
Before beginning treatment, Dr. Marquez works with local sleep doctors to confirm a diagnosis of sleep apnea. As this condition is related to muscular issues, our dentist may also recommend patients see a myofunctional therapist as part of their care.
Dr. Marquez will advise on behavioral changes, such as improving diet, cutting back on alcohol consumption, and quitting smoking. This, along with the nasal rinses, Breathe Rite® strips, nasal cones, and mouth taping that we offer alleviates most mild cases of sleep apnea. Our El Paso practice also provides treatment using oral sleep apnea appliances. These are particularly effective for patients who can’t tolerate using or are unsatisfied with the results from a CPAP machine.
Some of the options we have available at Marquez Dental include:
DNA Appliance® – One of the most recent developments in oral appliance therapy, the Daytime-Nighttime Appliance®, or DNA Appliance, is worn during the evening and night. It substitutes mechanical movement for a process that encourages the natural growth of the upper jaw and nasal airway. Beyond addressing the underlying causes of obstructive sleep apnea, the DNA Appliance also helps patients with mild orthodontic issues achieve better teeth alignment.
Telescopic Herbst® appliance – Known for its adaptability, our dentist can make precise adjustments to this appliance for individualized relief from snoring and obstructive sleep apnea symptoms.
SUAD® device – Made of soft acrylic materials reinforced by a metal framework, this device offers both durability and improved comfort as it moves the lower jaw forward.
TAP® 3 device – The main advantage of this two-piece device lies in its unique design; anyone can make adjustments while it is worn. Patients can even fine-tune the positioning of their appliance at home after receiving instruction from Dr. Marquez.
Night guards – In addition to branded options, our practice offers custom-fit night guards that keep airways open, making nighttime breathing easier. These appliances also protect the dental health of patients who grind their teeth in their sleep.
Each device offers a different level of comfort and effectiveness. We work with a dental laboratory that specializes in fabricating oral sleep appliances to ensure you receive the full benefits of treatment.
